Samson Craft
For this fill in teaching which is in between the larger curriculum term teaching I like to focus on Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Each week I like the children to make something that they can take home showing this bible verse.
The first week is a badge, this is easily done with the use of a printer and card, some feltips and a safety pin cellotaped to the back.
The children enjoy colouring their badge and cutting out the words and making it, wearing it home though, that’s the best part. Of course the wearing home, allows them to be able to explain the story of Samson that they are learning.
Here’s what you need to make the take home badge
Card
Paper with the printed verse - Philippeans 4:13
The children need to cut the verse out and stick it to the card, then take a safety pin and cellotape it to the back, before that they can decorate the badge being careful to not go over the printed verse words.
The Samson craft, use a downloaded colouring sheet and make a badge to take home.
Print the verse on paper and the badge square on card.
This is the front of the badge, I always make one and wear one the morning I am teaching Samson and the children ask me about my badge and I tell them that they will be going home with their own one!
The reverse of the badge is a safety pin with cellotape.
For the second week craft (I only do this lesson for a 2 week period) we make a necklace. The children absoutely love doing this. So that we get faith at home I make sure that I print out the words of Phillippeans 4:13 and laminate them and then cut them out into three little lines. I have found that threadable pom poms are a great buy from craft shops or craft areas within the bigger stores. You can extract the small plastic tube from the larger pom poms and use it to fix your bible quote to, which leaves the pom poms for another craft day. I extract the plastic tube part and fix on the laminated bible quote with cellotape so that it is all ready for the children.
I supply the children with the threadable pom poms, some lovely beads and then they get busy using their motor skills to thread the cord through the prettiness. Amazingly the boys love to make these to, if they want to make one for somone else that is fine, but most use brown and black beads and a darker thread and wear it with pride. It’s fantastic seeing the children leave with their necklaces after a fun morning.
You will need: cord, beads, threadable pom poms, laminated bible scripture.
This is how your finished necklace will look, I always make one and wear it into that week at Children’s church, the children ask me about it and I tell them that they are going to make one, nothing like building a bit of excitement.
